Thor RV Brand Guide (& Thor Motor Coach)

The Thor RV brands make up the largest family in the RV industry, but “Thor” can mean two different things. Thor Industries is the parent company behind Jayco, Keystone, Airstream, Tiffin, and more than half a dozen other RV brands. Thor Motor Coach is the motorhome builder that carries the Thor name, along with its Freedom Motorhomes lineup. This guide covers both: who makes Thor RVs, which brands Thor Industries owns, and what Thor Motor Coach builds.

Who Makes Thor RVs?

Thor RVs are made by Thor Industries, a publicly traded company headquartered in Elkhart, Indiana. Thor Industries owns a family of RV brands, including Thor Motor Coach, which formed in 2010 when Thor combined two of its motorhome companies, Four Winds International and Damon Motor Coach.

Thor Industries got its start in 1980, when Wade Thompson and Peter Orthwein bought Airstream. The company’s name combines the first letters of their last names. Thor has grown mostly through acquisitions. It typically keeps each brand’s name, products, and dealer relationships intact, which is why so many shoppers don’t realize that brands like Jayco, Keystone, and Airstream share a parent. Outside North America, Thor also owns the Erwin Hymer Group, one of Europe’s largest RV makers.

Thor is often grouped with Forest River and Winnebago Industries as one of the “big three” RV manufacturers in North America.

Where Are Thor Campers Made?

Most Thor RVs are built in northern Indiana, in and around Elkhart County, the center of the US RV industry. Thor Motor Coach, Keystone, Jayco, Dutchmen, CrossRoads, Heartland, KZ RV, and Entegra all build there. A few Thor brands build elsewhere. Airstream builds its trailers in Jackson Center, Ohio, and Tiffin builds its motorhomes in Red Bay, Alabama.

What Is Thor Known For?

Thor Industries is known for scale, range, and brand distinction. Its brands cover nearly every RV type and price point, from lightweight travel trailers to diesel-pusher motorhomes. But those brands, such as Jayco, Keystone, and Airstream, each keep their own designs, engineering teams, and reputations. Most brands now share resources within one of Thor’s two operating groups, which helps with purchasing and production but doesn’t change the RVs that carry each name.

Is Thor a Good RV Brand?

Thor is a solid choice for most buyers, but because “Thor” covers so many brands, the better question is whether a specific Thor brand fits your needs. An Airstream, a Keystone travel trailer, and a Thor Motor Coach Class A are built by different companies to different standards and price points. Judge each brand, and each line, on its own construction, features, and warranty.

Like any high-volume manufacturer, Thor’s brands draw both loyal owners and frustrated ones. The most common complaints across the industry, such as fit-and-finish issues and waits for warranty service, apply here too. A careful walkthrough before you buy is smart no matter what the name on the logo says.

What Brands Does Thor Industries Own?

In 2026, Thor organized most of its North American RV brands into two operating groups. Each group is led by one of Thor’s largest brands. Airstream and KZ stay independent. Every brand still sells under its own name.

Brand What it builds
Thor Motor Coach Class A, B and C motorhomes, including the Freedom lineup
Jayco Travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and Class A, B and C motorhomes
Keystone Travel trailers, fifth wheels and toy haulers
Entegra Coach Luxury Class A, Class C and Class B motorhomes
Tiffin Class A and Class C motorhomes
Heartland Fifth wheels, travel trailers and toy haulers
Highland Ridge Travel trailers and fifth wheels
Airstream Aluminum travel trailers and Class B touring coaches
KZ RV Travel trailers, fifth wheels and toy haulers

What Are the Thor Motor Coach Brands?

Thor Motor Coach’s lineup includes more than 40 motorhome lines and more than 150 floor plans, from compact camper vans to diesel-pusher Class A motorhomes. It also builds Freedom motorhomes — Freedom Elite, Coleman, Eddie Bauer, Freedom Traveler, and Freedom Mover — sold exclusively through Camping World.

Many Thor Motor Coach gas lines come in pairs: two brands built on the same chassis with the same floor plans, differing mainly in styling and décor. Pairs like Four Winds and Chateau let dealers offer different looks without Thor having to engineer two separate RVs.

Beyond styling, the biggest differences between Thor Motor Coach lines come down to chassis and power. Value-driven lines are built on proven gas platforms. That means Ford® and Chevy® truck chassis for Class C motorhomes, the Ford F-53® and E-Series® chassis for Class A motorhomes, and the Ram ProMaster® for camper vans. These keep prices more accessible and are easy to service.

A step up, lines like Gemini AWD move to the all-wheel-drive Ford Transit®. Lines like Sanctuary and Tiburon use the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter®, adding diesel efficiency, all-wheel-drive options, and more upscale interiors. Many of these are Class B+ motorhomes: compact motorhomes built on a van chassis, typically under 26 feet, that add the bathroom and bed space of a Class C while driving and parking more like a camper van.

At the top of the lineup are Super C motorhomes and diesel pushers. Super Cs like the Magnitude are built on heavy-duty truck chassis. They pair a Class C’s layout with the power and towing capacity of a much larger rig. Diesel pushers like the Palazzo add residential features for extended travel.

Our Brand Directory makes it easy to compare Thor Motor Coach’s lineup across classes, models, and floor plans.

What Is the Thor Motor Coach Warranty?

Thor Motor Coach motorhomes, including the Freedom lineup, are covered by several overlapping warranties. Thor covers the parts it builds, while the chassis and many appliances carry their own manufacturers’ warranties.

  • Limited warranty: Covers defects in materials and workmanship in the parts Thor Motor Coach builds for 12 months or 15,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  • Structural warranty: Covers the motorhome’s structure, such as its frame and sidewalls, for longer than the limited warranty. Current models list structural coverage of up to 12 years or 100,000 miles.
  • Chassis warranty: The chassis is covered separately by its manufacturer under that company’s own terms. Chassis repairs are handled through the chassis maker’s service network.
  • Appliance and component warranties: Appliances and components such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and generators carry warranties from their manufacturers.

Coverage details vary by model and model year, so review the Thor warranty guide for your specific motorhome. Each Thor Industries brand sets its own warranty terms, so a Jayco or Keystone warranty won’t match Thor Motor Coach’s.

Owners also get support beyond the warranty. The Thor Owner’s Portal offers model-specific information, owner’s guides, and how-to videos. Diesel owners can also join the Thor Diesel Club.

Thor Motor Coach FAQs

Does Thor make travel trailers?

Thor Motor Coach builds only motorhomes, but several other Thor Industries brands — Keystone, Jayco, Airstream, Heartland, Dutchmen, CrossRoads, KZ RV, and Highland Ridge — build travel trailers. Many of them also build fifth wheels and toy haulers.

Are Thor and Jayco the same?

No. Thor Industries owns Jayco, but Jayco and Thor Motor Coach are separate manufacturers with their own designs, factories, and lineups. Since 2026, Jayco has also led one of Thor’s two operating groups, which includes Entegra Coach, Tiffin, Heartland, and Highland Ridge RV.
