Overview

Poncho’s Pond RV Park is located in Ludington, Michigan.

It’s only a short distance away from US Highway 31, and is approximately halfway between Traverse City and Grand Rapids.

So if you plan to hit either (or both) of these popular cities, this would be an excellent midway stop.

Although this park isn’t directly on the shores of Lake Michigan, you’re only a short walk or bike ride away.

The Pere Marquette River feeds into the nearby lake as well, providing yet another place to fish, swim, or boat.

Miles of shoreline are within easy access, but you can also enjoy Poncho Pond right within the boundaries of the campground.

Speaking of the campground, let’s start exploring. This park has 269 RV sites, making it one of the largest-capacity parks in the area.

But that doesn’t mean you’ll feel cramped here. The campground spans across 37 acres, with plenty of parking loops for extra space and variety.

As an extra perk, all the sites here offer full hookups.

So no matter where you end up, you can rest assured that there will be power, fresh water, and sewage hookups to make your stay a little more comfortable.

Now let’s take a look at the prices. Because of this excellent location close to the lake and the variety of amenities we’ll discuss later, Poncho’s Pond RV Park is a little more expensive than your average campground.

But you’re guaranteed to get a great value, so it usually balances out.

Rates vary throughout the year. The summer season (May 23–August 31) is the most expensive time to stay here, followed by the early fall.

Spring and late fall are the cheapest times to visit if you’re looking to save a few bucks! You can also book a seasonal site from April 1–November 1.

This park closes in the winter due to the cold weather and heavy snowfall that Michigan faces.

  • Standard Sites: $57–$76 per night
  • Super Sites: $65–$86 per night
  • Seasonal Standard Site (Perimeter): $4,675 per season

  • Seasonal Super Site (Interior): $6,075 per season

Rental haciendas and casitas are also available for between $110–$272 per night (depending on the size of the rental and the season of the reservation).

As you can see, it’s a little more expensive to stay here compared to some others, but its still quite reasonable.

A prime location is only one ingredient for a great campground. It also needs some nice amenities and on-site activities to match!

Luckily, the Poncho’s Pond RV Park has plenty to offer its guests.

In addition to full hookups, each site also comes with access to cable TV, a picnic table, and a fire pit.

The park roads are all well-maintained asphalt and the parking pads are either gravel with a paved patio (Super Site) or concrete (Standard Site).

This saves you the trouble of leveling out your rig once you arrive! As an added bonus, most sites also come with their own shade trees.

Three restrooms and shower facilities are spread throughout the park, so every camper should be able to find one without too much trouble.

On-site laundromats are also located next to the pool facilities so you can easily dry your towels after taking a dip.

Speaking of the pools, there are so many options. This park is home to an indoor pool and hot tub that remain open no matter what the weather is like.

Additionally, there are two other pools and another hot tub located outdoors. These may be open or closed depending on the weather conditions/temperature.

But if you visit during the summer, there’s a good chance that all of these will be open for business.

One outdoor pool is for adults only, while the other is suitable for visitors of all ages.

This wide variety gives everybody a place to swim, whether they’re doing it for fun or relaxation!

If you’re more into fishing rather than swimming, head to the titular Poncho Pond. This is a huge 3-acre body of water that is stocked with several types of fish.

They will eat just about anything and guests can catch and release to their heart’s content.

Rental paddle boats are also available for anyone who wants to get out on the water.

Additional outdoor activities include a playground, horseshoe pits, volleyball nets, basketball hoops, and a shuffleboard court.

You can also just stroll around the park and enjoy the shade and lovely landscaping. Rental golf carts are also available for those who want to cruise in style.

Those looking for some indoor activities may enjoy the options within the clubhouse, such as the video game room or the fitness center.

There are also several planned activities hosted by the park managers.

These include things like live music performances, bounce castles, candy bingo games, special races, cookouts, and more.

Nearby Activities/Attractions

You can easily keep yourself entertained at the campground, but there are lots of local attractions that are worth a look as well.

For starters, take a visit to Lake Michigan! You’re right next to it, so don’t miss the opportunity to stroll the shores of this amazing lake.

It’s even so large that it requires several light houses to keep boats from beaching themselves.

The closest lighthouse to the campground is the Ludington North Breakwater Light. It’s open for public tours in the summer and you can get a great view from the top.

The Big Sable Point Light is another scenic landmark that’s worth a visit.

You can also explore the lake by visiting Stearns Park or Ludington State Park.

These parks give you easy access to the lake shores, complete with picnic spots, miles of nature trails, and plenty of shady areas to cool off.

Over 100 people have left their feedback for the Poncho’s Pond RV Park on RV LIFE Campgrounds and it has earned an impressive score of 9.7/10.

It’s rare to find a park that ranks in the 9 category, let alone a 9.7!

The very worst review this campground received was “Good,” and even those are few and far between.

Nearly everybody else gave it the rank of, “Excellent,” making this one of the most highly regarded parks in the state of Michigan.
